The Digital Heritage Innovation Lab (DHI Lab) is an interdisciplinary research space concerned with the application of digital methods and computational approaches to tangible heritage materials, collections, sites, and data. The DHI Lab is primarily interested public and community engaged digital heritage research and projects, with a particular focus on digitization, preservation, and access; augmented reality and mobile experiences in heritage places, spaces, and collections holding institutions; 3D printing and fabrication; and physical computing.
Directed by Dr. Ethan Watrall, the DHI Lab serves as a venue for grant funded research, digital heritage R&D and experimentation, and collaboration with scholars and institutions both inside and outside of MSU. Since its founding, the DHI Lab has begun working with the MSU Campus Archaeology Program, the Cultural Heritage Informatics Initiative, the Central Belize Archaeological Survey, the Great Lakes Research Alliance for the Study of Aboriginal Arts and Culture, and the MSU Museum on 3D digitization and preservation, 3D printing, and augmented reality projects involving both graduate and undergraduate students.
